Before you pay anyone to build a SaaS
We'd rather lose a project than build something nobody buys. Before the discovery sprint, we ask you to show us:
- Ten conversationswith people who have the problem, in their words, not a survey.
- A landing page with a price on itand a waiting list or pre-order, even if the product doesn't exist yet. Sign-ups at a stated price are the only cheap evidence of demand.
- The manual versionthe spreadsheet, the WhatsApp group, the Zapier chain you're already using to deliver the service by hand. If it works, the software will too.
- One workflowDescribed in a paragraph, that the first version must do end to end.
- A number you'd consider success at six monthspaying customers, monthly revenue, or retention.
If you can't yet show the first two, we'll suggest a no-code prototype or a concierge version first, and say so in writing.
What's in a SaaS MVP
A minimum viable product is the smallest thing a customer will pay for and keep using. Ours includes:
- One core workflowDone properly, rather than five done roughly.
- Authenticationsign-up, login, password reset, invitations, two-factor authentication, optional single sign-on later.
- BillingStripe subscriptions with trials, plans, seats or usage, VAT handling and invoices.
- An admin panelso you can see customers, usage and errors without asking a developer.
- Onboardingthe first five minutes designed so a new user reaches the "that's useful" moment quickly.
- Analytics and error monitoringfrom day one, so you learn from real usage.
- Transactional email(welcome, receipts, alerts) with proper domain authentication so it lands in inboxes.
- A public API or webhooksonly if customers will integrate on day one; otherwise it's phase two.
Got a deck, a Figma file or a spreadsheet you're embarrassed by? Send it. The discovery sprint turns it into a specification with screens and a fixed price.
Get a quoteMulti-tenant or single-tenant, and what we build with
Multi-tenant means every customer uses one copy of the application and one database, with strict separation so no customer can ever see another's data. It's cheaper to run, simpler to update, and standard for most SaaS. Single-tenant gives each customer their own instance, which some enterprise or regulated buyers demand. We build multi-tenant by default, with the data layer designed so a single-tenant deployment is possible later for the customer who insists.
| Layer | Default | When we choose differently |
|---|---|---|
| Back end | Laravel (PHP 8.3+), with Cashier for Stripe billing and queues for background work. See Laravel development | Node.js with NestJS for real-time features or API-heavy products |
| Front end | React or Next.js | Angular if your team already uses it |
| Database | MySQL for transactional data | MongoDB or DynamoDB for event logs, documents or very high write volumes |
| Hosting | AWS or Azure, UK regions To confirm: confirm regions used | Your existing cloud account if you have one |
| Payments | Stripe | |
| Testing | Automated tests on billing, auth and the core workflow; QA pass before launch via website testing |
We pick for your product, not our habits.
What a SaaS costs to run, and the UK rules that apply
Payment fees. Stripe UK charges 1.5% + 20p on standard UK consumer cards, 1.9% + 20p on premium and business cards, 2.5% + 20p on EEA cards and 3.25% + 20p on international cards, plus 2% for currency conversion; Stripe Billing adds from 0.7% of recurring volume (MerchantHQ, Jul 2026 rates). Hosting, email and monitoring at MVP scale typically run from tens to a few hundred pounds a month; the bigger variable is third-party APIs.
Third-party API costs can change under you. Xero moved to tiered API pricing from 2 March 2026: free up to five connections, then Core at around $22 a month for 50 connections, Plus around $152, Advanced around $895 (Apideck, 2026). We map every external dependency and its pricing at discovery.
UK GDPR: you're usually the processor. When your customers put their own customers' data into your product, they are the data controller and you are the processor, so you need a data processing agreement with each of them, data-protection-by-design (UK GDPR Article 25), a DPIA where processing is likely high risk, role-based access and UK-region hosting (ICO, 2026). We draft the technical half of this with you at discovery.
R&D tax relief for SaaS founders. Under the merged scheme (accounting periods from 1 April 2024) qualifying R&D earns a 20% taxable credit; loss-making, R&D-intensive SMEs (30% or more of total expenditure on R&D) can claim the enhanced ERIS route with a 14.5% payable credit, and cloud and software costs qualify. First-time claimants must notify HMRC within six months of the period end (ICAEW, 2024; adviser summaries). We document technical uncertainty in our discovery notes to support your adviser's claim. Take professional tax advice.
Who owns what: the questions due diligence will ask
- Repositories, cloud accounts and the Stripe account are created in your company's namefrom day one, with us as collaborators, not owners.
- Code and designs are assigned to youon final payment. Under UK copyright law the creator owns code by default, so this must be written down; paying the invoice isn't enough.
- Every open-source or licensed component is listedwith its licence, so there's no undisclosed boilerplate or starter kit that an acquirer's lawyer finds later.
- We sign an NDAbefore discovery if you want one.
- No per-user or platform feesto us, ever. Support is optional.
How much does SaaS development cost in the UK, and how long does it take?
Published UK agency ranges: MVP £25,000–£60,000; full platforms £60,000–£250,000+; retainers £8,000–£25,000 a month; UK day rates £600–£1,100 (saasdevelopment.co.uk, 2026; Softomate, 2026). The spread is scope, which is why we fix the price after a discovery sprint To confirm: Vimana to confirm its own MVP band.
- 1Discovery sprint (1–2 weeks)Workflow mapping, data model, screens, written specification, fixed price.
- 2Foundations (1–2 weeks)Multi-tenant data layer, authentication, Stripe billing, admin panel, hosting.
- 3Core workflow (4–6 weeks)Built in fortnightly sprints with a demo at the end of each.
- 4Testing, security review and launch (1–2 weeks)Automated tests on the money paths, QA pass, go-live with monitoring.
What we've built that's closest to SaaS
LoopCoA multi-client platform where Loop creates campaigns, routes QR codes, captures engagement and gives each client their own login to see results. Multi-client data separation and client-facing reporting are the heart of a SaaS.
Ready Steady DriveChoose a lesson, pick a slot, pay online, with a simple management panel for bookings, customers and payments. A productised booking-and-payment flow.
NOPE GroupA bespoke emissions calculator, the kind of interactive tool that often becomes a SaaS product's free tier.
To confirm: SaaS case study. Vimana has not yet published a multi-tenant subscription product. Amit to confirm whether any true SaaS (self-serve sign-up, recurring billing) has been built; if so, supply client, stack, MRR or user numbers and a quote.
"The whole process was quick, professional and incredibly affordable. Most importantly, the end result far surpassed what I had been offered by much more well-known and heavily advertised competitors."
Andy Parker, Google review
After launch: growing it, or rescuing it
Post-launch work is optional and month to month: onboarding improvements, churn fixes, new plans, integrations, security patches and framework upgrades To confirm: Vimana to confirm retainer from-£/month. If another agency built your product and has gone quiet, we start with a code audit and a written plan. Need a native app alongside? See mobile app development.

How much does it cost to build a SaaS product in the UK?
UK agencies publish MVP ranges of roughly £25,000–£60,000 and full platforms of £60,000–£250,000+ (saasdevelopment.co.uk, 2026). The spread is scope. We fix the price after a discovery sprint that defines one core workflow, authentication, billing and an admin panel, so you launch with the minimum that proves demand .
How long does it take to build a SaaS MVP?
Typically eight to twelve weeks : one to two weeks on data model and architecture, about a week on authentication and Stripe billing, four to six weeks on the core workflow, and one to two weeks on testing, security review and launch. Larger platforms take four to six months in phases.
Multi-tenant or single-tenant: which do I need?
Multi-tenant means all customers share one application and database with strict separation between their data; it's cheaper to run and standard for most SaaS. Single-tenant gives each customer their own instance, which some enterprise or regulated buyers insist on. We usually build multi-tenant with a documented path to single-tenant if a big customer demands it.
Which technology stack do you use for SaaS?
Laravel on PHP 8.3+ or Node.js with NestJS for the back end, React or Next.js for the front end, MySQL for transactional data with MongoDB or DynamoDB where the data shape suits them, hosted on AWS or Azure in UK regions . We choose for your product, not our preference.
Who owns the code and the intellectual property?
You do, from day one. Repositories, cloud accounts and the Stripe account are created in your name, we sign an NDA, and we list every open-source or licensed component and its licence in writing. That matters when you raise investment or sell: due diligence will ask.
What does it cost to run a SaaS after launch?
At MVP scale, expect hosting from tens to a few hundred pounds a month, transactional email and monitoring tools, and payment fees of 1.5% + 20p per standard UK card transaction plus Stripe Billing's 0.7% on recurring volume . Optional support retainers cover updates, security patches and small improvements .
Do we need UK GDPR, Cyber Essentials or ISO 27001?
UK GDPR applies from day one: as a SaaS you're usually a processor for your customers' data, so you need a data processing agreement, data-protection-by-design and UK hosting. Cyber Essentials is a sensible early step for selling to UK businesses. ISO 27001 or SOC 2 matter when enterprise or public-sector buyers ask; we design so certification later is straightforward.
Can you take over a SaaS another agency built?
Yes. We start with a code and infrastructure audit: security, test coverage, dependencies, Laravel or Node versions, billing logic and hosting costs, then give you a prioritised written plan. Many rescues turn out to be framework upgrades and billing or performance fixes rather than rewrites, and we'll say which before quoting.
Show us the evidence, and we'll show you the plan
Bring the ten conversations and the landing page sign-ups. If the demand is there, the discovery sprint gives you a specification with screens, a fixed price and a launch date.
