Web Development Agency for Bespoke Websites and Web Applications
When a template can't do what your business needs, we design and code it from scratch in PHP, Laravel, Next.js or Node, and hand you something you own.
Vimana Digital is a UK web development agency that builds bespoke websites and web applications: customer portals, custom content management systems, calculators, booking and quoting tools, and integrations with the systems you already run. Bespoke projects start from £5,000 and typically take four to eight weeks, with the code assigned to you on final payment.
What a web development agency actually builds
"Web development" is the coding side of a website: the logic, databases and integrations behind what you see. In practice:
Bespoke websiteshand-coded, with structure, speed and content management built around your business. Example: Bradgate Financial Solutions.
Web applicationssoftware that runs in a browser: dashboards, quoting tools, member areas. See software development.
Customer and trade portalslogin areas to view orders, reorder, download documents or book. Example: Ultrabond Adhesives.
Custom CMSa content panel showing only what your team needs to edit. See CMS development.
Integrations and APIsconnecting your site to CRMs, accounting, stock, payments or email. See CRM development.
Accessible platformsWCAG 2.2 builds with accessibility tools we code ourselves. Example: Notts County Foundation.
AI-powered workflowsdocument processing and data matching behind a web interface. Example: Webro. See AI automation.
When is bespoke web development worth paying for?
Honestly: less often than most agencies would like you to think. A five-page brochure site doesn't need custom code, and we'll say so. Our web design services cover WordPress and WooCommerce builds from around £1,000.
Go bespoke when…
You need logic a plugin can't do: trade pricing, multi-step quotes, approvals, matching
Customers or staff need to log in and do something, not just read
You're integrating with ERP, CRM, stock or accounting systems
Plugin sprawl is already causing slowdowns, conflicts or security worries
Accessibility, performance or data-protection obligations are strict
Stay on WordPress or WooCommerce when…
Your site is pages, a blog and an enquiry form
You want to edit content yourself with a familiar editor
Your shop has a standard catalogue and standard checkout
You're pre-revenue and need to test an idea cheaply
A redesign on your current platform would solve the real problem
The drawbacks of bespoke, stated plainly.
Higher upfront cost
from £5,000 rather than from around £1,000.
Developer dependency
new features need coding, not a plugin. We soften this with admin panels for routine changes, assigned code and documentation another developer could pick up.
Longer to first launch
four to eight weeks, versus one to three for a straightforward site.
Unsure? Send us your current site and what frustrates you about it. We'll tell you whether it's a bespoke job or a cheaper fix. Call 0115 647 0444.

Bespoke functionality we've shipped
A custom CMS that shows only what you need
NOPE Group sells a bio-based alternative to plastic. Their PHP website has a custom content panel so the team can add product ranges and update messaging without a generic backend full of options they'll never touch.
Calculators that turn claims into numbers
The same platform includes a bespoke emissions calculator: a visitor enters details of their current products and usage and sees an estimate of the emissions difference of switching to a NOPE alternative.
AI document processing in three weeks
Webro, a cable and connector supplier, received purchase orders with hundreds of lines where customers used their own part numbers. We built an AI workflow that reads the email, extracts the PDF, matches each line to Webro's product data and prepares a quotation for human review. Processing fell from up to 48 hours to around two minutes. The project had previously been taken on elsewhere with a three-month delivery expectation, then handed back.
Is bespoke more secure than WordPress?
It can be, for one specific reason: fewer third-party moving parts.
11,334
new WordPress-ecosystem vulnerabilities logged in 2025 (Patchstack)
91%in plugins
9%in themes
6in WordPress core, all low priority
Plugins are where WordPress vulnerabilities live
Patchstack's State of WordPress Security in 2026 logged 11,334 new vulnerabilities across the WordPress ecosystem in 2025, up 42% on 2024. 91% were in plugins, 9% in themes, and only six, all low priority, in WordPress core. WordPress is fine; unmanaged plugin sprawl isn't.
A bespoke build has no plugin surface
Login, forms, uploads and payments are coded once and reviewed, and don't depend on a volunteer developer keeping a plugin patched. Frameworks such as Laravel include protection against common attacks (SQL injection, cross-site request forgery) as standard.
But bespoke code still needs maintaining
Frameworks and server software get updates too. We cover this in website management; for AWS or Azure applications we agree a plan up front. To confirm: Vimana to confirm bespoke maintenance pricing
Accessibility failures are a risk of their own
WebAIM's 2025 scan found 94.8% of the top million home pages fail WCAG 2, and since 28 June 2025 the European Accessibility Act applies to businesses selling online to EU consumers. Bespoke builds let us get contrast, labels, keyboard navigation and focus states right in the code rather than patching them with an overlay.
Every build goes through our quality assurance and website testing process: functional tests, cross-device checks, WCAG 2.2 checks, and performance against Google's Core Web Vitals thresholds (main content under 2.5 seconds, taps answered within 200 milliseconds, no layout shift).

Launch, handover and support
1Brief reviewSend what you have: a document, a sketch, a frustrating spreadsheet. We tell you honestly whether it needs bespoke development and roughly what it costs.
2DiscoveryA workshop with the people who'll use the system. We write the scope: user types, screens, data, integrations, edge cases.
3DesignClickable designs of the key screens, so you react to something real before code is written.
4Build in stagesYou see working features as they're finished, not a big reveal at the end.
5TestingFunctional, device, accessibility and performance testing through our QA process.
6Launch, handover and supportTraining, documentation, admin access and assigned code, then an optional retainer, or walk away with everything you need.

A web development agency designs and codes websites and web applications rather than assembling them from templates and plugins. That includes custom content systems, customer portals, calculators, integrations with business software and the hosting around them. Vimana Digital does this from Long Eaton, for clients across the UK.
How much does a bespoke website cost in the UK?
Bespoke websites with Vimana Digital start from £5,000. Web applications, portals and integrations are quoted after a short discovery phase, because cost depends on the number of user types, screens and systems involved. UK agency day rates run £850–£1,400, which is why a fixed scope matters more than the headline figure.
How long does bespoke web development take?
Typically four to eight weeks for a bespoke website or focused application, longer for multi-system platforms. Webro's AI workflow was delivered in three weeks because the scope was tight and decisions were fast. The biggest delays in any project are content, data access and feedback turnaround, not coding.
Will I own the code?
Yes. Source code, design files and hosting accounts are assigned or transferred to you on final payment, with documentation so another developer could continue the work. We don't licence software back to clients or lock them into a proprietary platform.
Can we edit a bespoke website ourselves?
Yes. Our bespoke builds normally include a custom admin panel for the content and data your team changes routinely: pages, products, prices, team members, whatever applies. It shows only what you need, which most clients find easier than a general-purpose CMS. Adding new features still needs a developer.
Bespoke or WordPress: which should I choose?
WordPress if your site is pages, a blog and a form, and you want to edit it yourself cheaply. Bespoke if customers or staff need to log in and do something, you're integrating with other systems, or plugin sprawl is already causing problems. We build both and recommend the cheaper option when it fits.
Is bespoke development more secure than WordPress?
Often, because there are fewer third-party components. Patchstack recorded 11,334 WordPress-ecosystem vulnerabilities in 2025, 91% of them in plugins. A bespoke build removes that surface, and frameworks like Laravel include protection against common attacks. Bespoke code still needs updates and monitoring, which we include in maintenance plans.
Can you host on AWS or Azure?
Yes. For applications that need to scale, isolate data or meet specific compliance requirements we deploy on AWS or Azure in an account you own. Standard bespoke websites run on our hosting from £120 a year with SSL included. We'll recommend the simpler option unless there's a reason not to.
Can you integrate with our CRM, accounting or stock system?
Usually, yes. Most modern systems expose an API (a way for software to exchange data), and we've connected websites to CRMs, payment providers, booking tools and product databases. During discovery we check what your systems allow and flag anything needing a workaround before quoting.
Can you take over a project another developer started?
Yes, after a code review. We assess what exists, what's salvageable and what isn't, and give you an honest written view before quoting. Webro's brief came to us after a previous team handed it back; we delivered in three weeks. Sometimes a rebuild is cheaper than a rescue, and we'll say so.
